My most recent read was the Featherstone Academy "trilogy".
Why "trilogy" in quotes?
Because the series has more than 3 books, but since the fourth book focuses on different characters, I decided to divide my opinion into two parts.
Beware, if you don't like spoilers some may appear in this review.
The first book in this trilogy by author K.C. Kean is called My Bloodline, a Reverse Harem trilogy with MMF action where he tells the story of Luna, a teenager who has just turned 18. She doesn't have many friends and her life is based on fight training and tattoos. A good life right?
But suddenly her life is turned upside down when she is forced to attend Featherstone University, a college specializing in crime. There she meets Roman, Oscar, Kai and Parker. Four teenagers who will change her life in ways she didn't expect.
Honestly, I loved the first book. It's not very big, K.C.'s writing is light and fast and a person ends up getting lost in the book and next thing you know, you've finished the book at that clifhanger and you need to continue. I thought the protagonist was fantastic, even though she has 4 boyfriends, she's not those weak and defenseless females. She shows that as women we can be feminine when we want to, have those "pink" moments and kick someone's ass if we have to.
The second book follows the same plot, trapping us in the unfolding of the story and new surprises. And for people, like me, who like an MM action, it's the right book. Because 3 of the boys end up curling up. Want to know which ones? Read the book!
This second book shows the more feminine side of Luna and the more sensitive side of the boys. We get to know Red (Luna's best friend) more and see more of her dad and her family and everyone around her. It also becomes a little more violent, but since it's a book about crime, I found it quite light. Taking into account the crime theme of the books, I think the author focused too much on other aspects, such as the romance. I'm not saying that this shouldn't be a focus, but as she informs at the beginning that the book would have strong scenes, I found it very weak.
In the third book, we see Luna and her four men facing the villain of the trilogy (who, by the way, is horrible and meaningless), she also discovers that a lot of things were hidden from her again, but we finally begin to see that bloodier side of the book (but that didn't get to be a big deal).
I think the author ended up getting a little lost in this book. Luna who was a totally bad-ass woman in the first two books has literally become a crybaby and hothouse flower who swoons over everything. Why did it? She was so fine with being the bad-ass.
Two things I loved was that Parker was able to find his inner strength and Oscar was open to the possibility of being Bi.
I think she ended up spoiling Roman a little, his specialty is murder and when in the book we think we're going to see him kill someone and show that ability... they pass it to another boy, like! They just showed a Roman who learned to say I Love You and became soft. No, it ruins everything.
And let's talk about the Villain? That only appears at the end of the book and does practically nothing? Like... what villain is this? Shouting threats over the phone doesn't make you a villain, it makes you a steric Karen in a supermarket. Even the character Wren (let's say a secondary villain) did more damage than he did.
The continuation of this series is called Red and tells the story of Luna's best friend Harem.
Let's see if the quality goes up again with these.
XoXo
Luna
PS: My name Luna it's not because this book
